Re: New Build: Emco PC5 CNC Lathe

Hi Marty, I started converting an Emco Compact 5 CNC for Centroid Acorn four years ago, but due to changes in life the project stalled. I had already purchased ClearPath CPM-SDSK-2311S-EQN servos for the axis, and a KBPB-225 DC speed controller to provide variable speed for the Baumüller Nürnberg GN...

Re: Build log: Emco Compact 5 CNC Acorn conversion

Here is a video showing the problem I'm having with the motor drive. With low speeds the motor starts, kind of stops and immediately continues to rotate. Well, have a look at the video to get the idea. With higher speeds it's running smooth. I'm sure this will be an easy fix by adjusting ACCEL, MIN ...

Build log: Emco Compact 5 CNC Acorn conversion

Hi there! I'm pretty new here, and definitely a rookie hobbyist machinist. I've been dreaming about owning a lathe for as long as I can remember, and in March 2018 I finally bit the bullet and bought a small Emco Compact 5 CNC lathe from a school that had had it sitting unused for a couple of decade...

Re: Help needed identifying KBSI-240D's missing components

Thank you @dickeybird for your offer to help. I just finished fixing the signal isolator. It took quite a while of google images browsing before I was able to identify the markings from the missing regulator, but now all is fine, and the output voltage is stable to 1 mV 8-)

Help needed identifying KBSI-240D's missing components

In March I bought a KBSI-240D Rev D isolator board from eBay. It's been sitting on my desk waiting for my summer vacation, and when I finally had time to start integrating it with Acorn I noticed severe problems. I'm upgrading Emco CNC 5 lathe to work with Acorn, and I'm using KB DC controller to dr...

Re: Touch Screen Monitors

Edit: I mean something like this https://www.spacedesk.net/ That's a neat idea. This would allow running the CNCPC headless. I think normal Remote Desktop (RDP) connection would work too: Mac OS and iOS have native Microsoft RDP clients that work really well, even over slow mobile connections. Sinc...

Re: Touch Screen Monitors

VT207N works well with CNC12 on this end. It can be found for less than $200, teh T232HL appears to be about $300 Thanks Marty. Do you know if your monitor is scaling the image (i.e. pretending to be a full-HD display), or does CNC12 work natively with 900 pixel tall screens? I like the Acer T232HL...

Re: Touch Screen Monitors

Might be a good idea to buy a 1920x1080 screen instead of the 1600x900 models Marty et al are recommending. Both are 16:9 aspect ratio, but the former has 180 more vertical pixels. If CNC12 has been coded with a fixed, non-responsive/non-scalable layout, the UI will be cut off from the bottom. I wou...

Acorn maximum pulse rate?

Acorn spec sheet states that the maximum pulse rate is 400 kHz. I'm curious what this number actually means. Is it 400,000 pulses per second per output pin, 400,000 pulses per second per motor channel, 400,000 pulses per second for all the motor channels together, 400,000 pulses per second shared be...
