Re: USB MPG

our target price is under $200 for the XHC PHB04B-4 WIRELESS USB MPG. The performance is impressive. Anyone with a large machine tool will value this MPG control pendant. for those that want a cheaper solution the Contour Shuttle offers a lower price point..the drivers we have developed for the Shu...

Re: USB MPG

$200 is WAY more reasonable! :-) I Googled, the part number, which took me to a vendor on AliExpess selling it for $1300+! Bet they don't sell too many!

Re: Inrush current limiter?

There is no good reason NOT to use a switching power supply with steppers, and they cost almost nothing these days.

Re: USB MPG

Yeah.... At over $1000, I don't seen many people being interested in connecting one of those to their Acorns. The Shuttle is, I suppose, better than the keyboard, but anyone who has used a REAL MPG, will toss it in the trash right off the bat, just like I did. For the Acorn at least, the VistaCNC pe...

Re: USB MPG

If Centroid wants to support the VistaCNC pendants (which are excellent pendants!), I'm sure Lee, the owner, would be happy to provide information on their HID interface, to make the job easy. I know he is interested in having Acorn support for his products. I'd be happy to provide an introduction.....

Re: Inrush current limiter?

What you have to watch our for is back-EMF from the motors back-driving during deceleration, raising the support voltage enough to damage the drives. Operation with the nominal supply voltage at, or above, the rated voltage for the drive is asking for trouble... PMDX.com has some nice power conditio...

Re: Inrush current limiter?

There's no way to know what without either measuring, or having a spec sheet. It's either two 18V/16A outputs, or two 36V/8A outputs. I would power it up with the secondary wires not connected at all, and measure both windings, and you'll have your answer.

Re: Inrush current limiter?

Which two wires correspond to a single winding is easy - each will show near zero resistance to each other. Your problem will be in figuring out the correct polarity. From the photo, I would guess the two wires on the left are each one end of each winding, and the two wires to the right are the othe...

Re: Coil Suppresion?

There is no simple answer. The snubber, ideally, matches the characteristics of the coil it's acting on. In most cases, a generic one will work just fine. It's only in extreme cases you should have to resort to custom designing one. In many cases, a simple reverse diode is all you really need. Regar...

Re: Centroid missed out...

There's very little actual interest in CNC there. I've been there several times with Novakon (I designed and build the PDB and ATC for the Novakon machines). Little or no business ever came out of attending Cabin Fever.
