Re: Setting lathe threading tool?
Depends how you program it. On our mazak machines the flat face of the thread insert is touched off against tool setter. That way if u have a 30mm shoulder u can program the threading op up to 30mm without collision

Re: Acorn VS Tormach
U think they are over priced then try and get a price for one in Australia. I inquired about a price about a year ago. For a pretty basic 770 with tool changer, a guard and some other stuff it was over 40k aud. I understand there is currency conversion and shipping etc but the price was well above w...

Re: Screw Terminals vs DB25 Header
With so many being recommended to use 100k centroid probably should add that to the 200 and 400kHz options in the wizard.

Re: Screw Terminals vs DB25 Header
Just remember, any changes made directly within CNC12 will be overwritten if you use the Wizard and write changes. You will have to drop back into CNC12 and make the changes again. I have found this hasn’t been the case for me. I have made changes and updated the acorn via the wizard and double che...

Re: Screw Terminals vs DB25 Header
I set my rev2 acorn board up to leadshine ac drives using a 5v source connected to + connections on drive and - connections on screw terminals... as per the diagrams presented back then. It works well with max frequency set to 400kHz but actual max is limited to 200kHz by set max rapids and electron...

Re: ACORN Rev 4 Controller Board
I bought the original one just before the rev3 came out. It works fine. I am borrowing a rev 3 board from a mate to get the lathe up and running but glad I have delayed buying another acorn so next one I buy can be a rev4... unless ur doing a stellar deal on old rev 3 stock Keith .

Desktop Horizontal Build
After the relative ease at which i had success in retrofitting the hercus mill and some of the apparent shortcomings in the design and construction of the mill hardware it was based on i decided i would have a crack at designing my own mill from scratch. I wanted to take full advantage of the 4th ax...

Re: Dyn4 to Acorn cable - Why not utilize the Dyn4’s internal 5v power supply ?
I’m not familiar with DMM but I did use leadshine ac drives which has a similar 5v output. I originally wired it up using this 5v as signal supply but the servo would only rotate one way and would not rotate very fast. Not enough current to supply both a step and direction signal. The 5v output is a...

Re: No analog voltage 0-10 volts
I take it the vfd isn’t the issue but I used a most likely huan yang copy vfd as the pins didn’t match the acorn diagrams. I did some testing and put together a diagram that I used. I think I put in my mill thread if ur interested.

Re: New project
With my recent lathe project I decided to try reuse the original dc motors. I tried using leadshine dc drive because I had good success with their ac drives in a mill project. I have had issues with drive faults but am thinking it’s the encoders so I have ordered amt102v encoders. When looking for e...
