Nice, that should make for a pretty beefy spindle motor. What price ranger are those 2.6kw kits going for?

Re: VFD Selection for Use with Acorn
Thank you for your help Wes. Another newbie question, but right now during the building and testing stages of the machine, I have the meanwell power supply that came with the Acorn connected to a standard 110/120 V outlet. If the spindle motor requires 230VAC, do I switch the power incoming to the ...

Re: VFD Selection for Use with Acorn
You do not need to double the power rating, modern VFDs are designed to run the load they advertise (so long as they are not cheapest chinesium you can find). Yes input phase matters, if you are running it on single phase, you need to make sure the VFD is rated for single phase input and three phase...

Re: Last Call - Chinese AC Servo For Spindle Upgrade
Thanks for pointing this out. I really enjoy researching this stuff. I enjoy learning as much as getting the project done. Just for fun, using the G Wizard feed and speed calculator, I calculated how much power and torque are really needed for the work I do. I pushed the limits significantly beyond...

Re: Last Call - Chinese AC Servo For Spindle Upgrade
Thats a DC servo, not compatible with the AC servo drives. For quotes I just contacted leadshine through their "get a quote" on their website. 2500 rpm is the highest rpm they have for a 220v, 2kw ac servo that I can see. They do also have the 1.5kw in 3k rpm, but at that point you might a...

Re: Last Call - Chinese AC Servo For Spindle Upgrade
Well I calculate my drive setups. This example is for a 12x4 ball screw with 2:1 belt reduction. Uwe I did a little more digging, just because I was curious about this. the Leadshine EL7 (and T6 that I am using) has 0-200khz pulse rate with 24v signal, and 0-500khz with 5v differential signal. http...

Re: Last Call - Chinese AC Servo For Spindle Upgrade
The Leadshine software does not feature more functions than JMC software. One reason I prefer JMC over Leadshine for axis servos is that Leadshine is limited to 200khz, JMC will take 500khz. I am running them on my lathe with 400khz. Uwe That's something I know very little about. What does the high...

Re: Last Call - Chinese AC Servo For Spindle Upgrade
The only other vendor I can think of that might be worth getting a quote from would be leadshine. They have an 2kw, 2500rpm EL7 servo drive and servo pair that might be worth looking into. Only reason I bring up leadshine is because their documentation is far better then anything I have seen from th...

Re: Last Call - Chinese AC Servo For Spindle Upgrade
One thing I noticed, with the chinese servos, most are rated for 220v +/-10%. If your local power company is like mine, they run the local transformers at 240v +/-5%. I have measured my 240v at 247vac quite frequently, which would be outside the operational range of the chinese servo's 220v +/-10%. ...

Re: Last Call - Chinese AC Servo For Spindle Upgrade
From reading in the forum, I would never get a DMM Servo, too many problems I never had with decent Chinese servos. Uwe Oh, I must have missed those posts. I know some folks had to RMA a few, but did not realize there was a general issue with Dmm-tech. Marty used them in a few of his videos and see...
