Re: G0678 CNC Conversion Thread

More work: I've been working on the front plate making a recess for the NEMA 34 Servo to mount on the backside. .600" deep pocket, 4 motor bolt slots, one motor shaft slot and a pocket for the nose of the motor "pilot" to fit into. Then some cuts on top to match the contour of the mill knee and a po...

Re: G0678 CNC Conversion Thread

Progress Report: It was -5 here yesterday so I spent the day making the ball nut carrier for the Y axis. It doesn't look like all that much but there are three clearance issues. Width of the slot in the table verses the width of the ball nut itself, the knee elevation screw head which ends up being ...

Re: Inrush current limiter?

secondary resistance across the red/white was zero I think when we first read your post we read this as an [open circuit] instead of a dead short! Zero resistance verses OL (open LIne) on the ohm meter. So zero resistance would be a "dead short" or a very good circuit path. You should be abl...

Re: Inrush current limiter?

Milton, All the Torroids that I have with 4 wires for the primary windings have two sets of the same colors. All of mine are red and black. For 110v (120) the reds go together for one pair and the blacks go together for the other pair. So the windings are wired in parallel! For 230 volt, the red and...

Re: Erroneous Torque Nomenclature?

Not sure this will help but here goes: Oz in is just a ratio to lb in. Let's say you have [1600 oz in] as the amount of torque. To get [lb in] you just divide by 16 as there are 16 oz in a lb. Now if you want [foot lb] you are changing the distance of measurement and not the division of weight. So d...

Re: G0678 CNC Conversion Thread

Marty, Good idea on the ball screws. These came from Automationoverstock.com and are made by Hiwin. This ball nut has 4 rows of balls. It is called a "Zero Backlash" nut and the specs say .0007" or less backlash. Price was less than $100.00 US. Includes the grease fitting and is shipped in a sealed ...

Re: G0678 CNC Conversion Thread

Y axis ball screw came in today so I had to make sure everything was going to fit. It does! With a .040" gauge block on top of the knee elevation screw, it centers on the existing hole just about perfect. There will be a 1" face plate to attache the thrust bearing and to mount the Teknic clearpath s...

Re: Limit/home switches

Those of us coming over from the Mach 3 world are accustom to the "unload" button that removes the active G-Code file. So we need to develop some new habits! Loading a null file may be the answer! I see I am going to have to re-work my Mach 3 setup on the lathe once I finish this mill project as wor...

Fusiohn 360, Yup, even old guys like me can work with Fusion 360. I think it is by far the easiest of the Cad/Cam programs to learn. Autodesk has a lot of good videos with step by step instructions for beginners. I still have an issue with bolt holes from sketch. I don't have the time to stop right ...

Re: G0678 CNC Conversion Thread

Milton, Yeah the bottles and ashtrays would be a problem. That is why it is a "private" studio and I rarely ever had anyone else in. I did do a couple of sessions here but it was for some friends whom did not trash the place. I built the studio for me to do DEMO's of songs that I wrote. I started DA...
