The only thing it would affect on Constant Surface Speed is that the system would think the spindle is moving slightly after or slower than it actually is.

Re: lathe threading question
Generally speaking an encoder will have an "index mark", something that provides a fixed, known position, rather than just speed and direction. For the automotively inclined, think of it as "top dead center"- in the case of a car engine, the computer needs to know the exact posit...

Re: lathe offsets
just a quick question when i do offsets and set reference x and z do i have to do every tool i have? -Yes. Tool #1 (by default, anyway) is what's known as the reference tool . You use this to manually turn a new surface on a piece of stock, and enter the dimensions of that surface (face or body) in...

Re: Lathe Intercon/Conversational Questions:
You are correct that if there are any angles, chamfers, or radius the Profile cycle is used if you have material to remove and then finish it. If you are only doing a cut where you are doing only a light skim cut then you can program it line by line. Most times there is additional material that nee...

Re: Lathe Intercon/Conversational Questions:
I'm hoping to when things settle a bit. I have work piled to the rafters at the moment- which is in large part why I need this machine up and running. :D (Also why I haven't had much free time to chew my way through the manual. ) And on that note, another quick Q: It's sounding like basica...

Re: Lathe Intercon/Conversational Questions:
Docs, which revision of software are you running? -Still on 4.14 as I haven't had a chance to update yet. With the turning cycle you can not put a chamfer or radius on the corner. With the Profile cycle you can. -I suspected as much. Still working my way through the manual, but things aren't "...

Re: Lathe Intercon/Conversational Questions:
Perhaps a better question is, is there a more detailed, or more in-depth tutorial on Intercon, anywhere? There's only one YT video I've found, and the two tutorials in the manual, neither one of which really explain much beyond "here it is, here's what it can do, go have fun!" :D I hate to...

Lathe Intercon/Conversational Questions:
I have little experience with Intercon, so keep the sniggering to a minimum, eh? :D I have some parts I'm simply reworking in my converted Logan lathe, to reduce the diameter from about .990" to .930". I can do that with "Turn" in Intercon easy enough, but I want to add a 1/16&qu...

Compact home/limit switch options?
I'm helping a buddy work on a small Grizzly mini-mill conversion, and we need a set if home/limit switches to use. I put some Omrons on my lathe conversion, and I'm quite happy with them, as the repeatability is basically perfect. But for the minimill, they're physically fairly large. What are some ...

Re: Anybody here using an accurate home location as reference for setting tool offsets? as reference
I've had a tough time grasping this too, mainly because my brain just isn't "wired" for software or electronics in general, and CNC in particular. (My converted lathe is the first CNC machine I owned, and the first one I ever even pushed the 'start' button on. Total green noob, here. :D ) ...
