Re: Precision Matthews PM-25MV

Great. I think for the extra dollars, you do get a nice jump in work envelope and rigidity. Touch base with me when you are ready for the conversion.

Re: Precision Matthews PM-25MV

Mike who made your kit? I did not pick up the PM 25 till tuesday Maybe move up to PM 727. Thanks John I made my kit myself. I picked the PM-727 for its larger capacity, especially the z-axis (a vise and chuck take up a lot of height). The machine is about 500 lbs, so it has good stiffness. Also, th...

Re: Precision Matthews PM-25MV

Mike you did a nice job. How do your like your mill? Enjoying the learning part of things? Marty Thanks. The mill is pretty good for the price. Good size, decent accuracy, not too noisey (hardened gears). Spindle speed is fine as a manual mill, but may be a little slow for CNC (1760 RPM's). The way...

Re: Precision Matthews PM-25MV

I have the bigger brother PM-727 for which I've converted to CNC using the Acorn and Teknic drives. The Acorn absolutely rocks. Even though the Acorn is not a full closed loop controller, I've dome some precision CNC work that measured less than 0.5 thousandth error. The Centroid fellas really did t...

Re: DRO Readout Not What I Would Expect

Unless you are in incremental mode, the jog will move for the perceived duration of your mouse click, which is quantized by Windows and therefore can be rather arbitrary. Use the incremental mode to jog for better precision. For the best precision, go to the MDI menu and type your intended coordinat...

Acorn CNC Conversion of Precision Matthews PM-727

Hey Folks, I wanted to post my results in converting my Precision Matthews PM-727 manual mill to a CNC machine using the Acorn board. I built a simple electronics cabinet to house the Acorn board and power supplies. The schematics hook-up published by Centroid for the Teknic drives went without a hi...
