Re: Fuses - how many and where?

What I'm doing is installing a fuse or circuit breaker on the input side of each power supply and a fuse or circuit breaker on the output side of the power supply. In addition, I use a fuse on each output circuit that exits the control box. For example, the MDR-20-5 power supply is rated at 0.55A at...

Re: Fuses - how many and where?

Thanks everyone (and also those who texted/emailed me to offer help). What I think I'll do is to follow the general guidelines in Centroidcnc's https://www.centroidcnc.com/dealersupport/schematics/uploads/S15031.r2.pdf schematic with modifications to suit my controller. Wiring will be sized to handl...

Fuses - how many and where?

Yesterday, I rewired a bunch of stuff on my test bench. Typically, I use 14 gauge wire between the wall socket, through the disconnect switch an then to the line size of the circuit breaker. The circuit breaker that follows the disconnect is 10A because I use 16 gauge wiring between the circuit brea...

Re: Acorn does not recognize motor after auto-tuning <clearpath software setup>

Let's review the procedure to run a SDSK ClearPath from an Acorn. In the Teknic MSP software, the motor must be set to Step+Direction. In the MSP software, the servo can be tested for motion if it is set to Step+Direction or to Quadrature. Page 29 of the ClearPath User Manual Rev 2.27 shows how to w...

Re: Acorn does not recognize motor after auto-tuning

In the ClearPath-MSP program, have you verified that the input format is Step+Direction and not Quadrature? When running from the Acorn, Is the ClearPath motor LED Green or Amber? Green is required.

Re: Motor missing steps

I found this website that seems to match your motors: https://elektronik-lavpris.dk/files/user_uploaded/142498_1524729373.pdf Page STP 22 seems to match your motor. You'll note from the steps-per-second chart that the motors are slow. The "knee" on the torque curve is around 1000 steps per...

Re: Master Control Relay (Safety Relay)

Keith, I agree that a mechanical disconnect, like a knife switch, might be the best choice if you needed to kill all of the power; but, a Master Control Relay typically does not kill all the power. Depending on how it is wired, it kills the power to selected devices while leaving other devices activ...

Master Control Relay (Safety Relay)

It's common practice to install a master control relay (MCR) in a process control cabinet. Sometimes the MCR is called a Safety Relay. Its purpose is to disconnect power to anything that could cause a safety issue. The MCR can be added to an Acorn. I've drawn a simple schematic that shows one way a ...

Re: Motor noise

G00 moves are usually rapid jogs to position the cutter. G01 moves are usually much slower. Stepper motors "sing" at various speeds. Servo motors "dither" to hold position. Noise can be a common occurrence depending on the speed and the load.

Re: What Servo motors for milling machine and acorn help

I would start by looking up the specs on the motors typically installed on those machines and then look at Teknic's selection guide to see what they have that is similar. Teknic is a good choice for Acorn users. Connecting and driving one of their servo motors is as easy as connecting and driving a ...
